SCHOOL ORGANISATION

THE NURSERY

The Nursery is large, bright and well equipped; its recent fine inspection report can be viewed on the Ofsted website.  It is situated in a separate unit within the Glen site, but also affords contact with the older children.  Boys and girls are welcomed from the age of three on a flexible basis to suit the needs of the children’s and parents’ requirements.  Caring staff provide a wide variety of structured play situations to help each child acquire many early learning skills.  The use of the gymnasium, in lessons with a specialist P.E. teacher adds a further dimension to the facilities offered.  Our aim is for the children to be happy, to develop socially and to gain in self confidence.  This facilitates a smooth transition to the more formal education in Reception.

THE PRE-PREP

The Pre-Prep (under its own Head of Department) comprises Reception, Year One and Year Two.  Children are accepted into Reception classes from the age of four, when they begin their formal education under the guidance of our committed and experienced teaching staff.  Emphasis is placed on the development of literacy and numeracy skills.

In addition, the children explore a wide variety of subjects and specialist staff are available to assist with Science, French, Music, Art, Ballet and Sport.

Music, drama and sport are important parts of the curriculum.  There are regular concerts, to which parents and friends are invited, and, at Christmas, the children participate in a production which involves singing, dance and acting.

THE SENIOR SCHOOL

Children in Year Three to Eight comprise the senior department. As they move through the School, the children receive more and more specialist teaching.  Their progress is carefully monitored and parents are kept well informed by means of regular and parent/teacher meetings.  When children reach Year 5, they stay for an hour after tea to do their homework or ‘prep’, as it is known, at school.  During Year 8 the children sit entrance examinations to a wide range of senior independent schools.  Stoneygate has an outstanding record of success in preparing pupils for these tests.
