Pre-Prep

The pre-prep department consists of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
The Pre-Prep (under its own Head of Department) welcomes children into its Reception classes from the age of four, when they begin their formal education under the guidance of our committed and experienced teaching staff.  Emphasis is placed on the development of literacy and numeracy skills.

In addition, the children explore a wide variety of subjects and specialist staff are available to assist with Science, French, Music, Art, Ballet and Sport.

Music, drama and sport are important parts of the curriculum.  There are regular concerts, to which parents and friends are invited, and, at Christmas, the children participate in a production which involves singing, dance and acting.

The pre-prep provides a secure and friendly environment where children are encouraged to be confident, self-disciplined and motivated. There is a strong emphasis on the acquisition of basic skills which provide a firm foundation for future academic achievements.

Curriculum
We aim to provide a broad based education which works with the National Curriculum and provides enough scope to allow for individual interests and topics to be covered.

The children receive a thorough grounding in all subjects with particular emphasis in English, Mathematics and Science. French is taught from Year 2 upwards. The children benefit from both singing and instrumental lessons, and there is an annual Christmas concert which gives all children an opportunity to demonstrate their talents. Sports skills are developed through regular PE and games lessons. The girls have a weekly dance lesson and the boys play football in the winter and cricket in the summer. There are weekly clubs for gymnastics, tennis, rugby and swimming. During the summer term all children use the outdoor swimming pool for their swimming lessons.

All pre-prep children have their IT lessons in the computer suite in the Senior Building.

The small class sizes with a Form teacher and a classroom assistant ensure individual support and personal attention. Through continual assessment a pupil's progress can be monitored, and if a child is experiencing any difficulties these can be address by a learning support programme.

Parents are requested to ensure that we have up-to-date medical, dietary and emergency contact details for each child. A form covering these details can be accessed by clicking on the link below.
