Netball at Stoneygate

Netball

Netball at Stoneygate is played from an early age, commencing at Year 3 when the official AENA five-a-side game, 'High 5', is introduced. This provides the link between the first skills of netball and the full 7-a-side game. It encourages a flowing game through which players can build both their own ball and movement skills and the concept of team work. High 5 is played through to Year 6 but the 7-a-side game is also introduced at Year 5, and girls play regular matches against other schools in both games.

Individual and team skills, as well as playing etiquette, are progressively taught by qualified coaches. The school enters high level tournaments, including the Leicestershire Championships. Annual league (house) matches are played within the school at all levels.

Stoneygate teams won the Leicester Grammar School Under-11 Netball Tournament in 2009 and 2010, the Ratcliffe Under-11 Netball Tournament in 2010 and the Stamford Junior Under-10 Netball Tournament in 2009.

On leaving Stoneygate, at the end of Year 8, there is the opportunity for players to progress their netball further by joining local clubs with which the school Games and P.E. staff have regular contact.
